AWS to Launch Infrastructure Region in Saudi Arabia by 2026

Riyadh – Mubasher: Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced its plans to inaugurate an AWS infrastructure region in Saudi Arabia by the year 2026, as stated in a press release.

The forthcoming AWS region is poised to cater to the needs of developers, startups, entrepreneurs, enterprises, as well as healthcare, education, gaming, and nonprofit organizations. It will facilitate the operation of their applications and provision of services to end-users from data centers established within the Kingdom.

Aligned with its steadfast commitment, AWS is set to invest over $5.30 billion (SAR 19.88 billion) in the Kingdom.

Prasad Kalyanaraman, Vice President of Infrastructure Services at AWS, remarked, “Today’s announcement reinforces Saudi Arabia’s digital transformation journey with the utmost security and resilience provided by AWS cloud infrastructure, thereby addressing the burgeoning demand for cloud services across the Middle East.”

“We eagerly anticipate supporting Saudi Arabian institutions, startups, and enterprises in delivering cloud-powered applications to expedite growth, enhance productivity and innovation, and foster job creation, skills development, and educational prospects,” Kalyanaraman added.

The new AWS Region will comprise three Availability Zones upon its launch, supplementing the existing 105 Availability Zones spread across 33 geographic regions worldwide.

Moreover, AWS intends to unveil 18 additional Availability Zones and six more AWS Regions in Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, and the AWS European Sovereign Cloud.

Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Badran, CEO of Etihad Etisalat Company (Mobily), stated, “By leveraging Mobily’s profound understanding of the local market and robust infrastructure, in tandem with AWS’s global expertise, we aim to unlock opportunities to deliver innovative B2B and B2C solutions that revolutionize the digital landscape.” 1

“Leveraging generative AI, next-generation technologies, and exploring their full potential with AWS, we aspire to unleash novel business prospects to operate more efficiently, reach broader audiences, and ultimately contribute to the ambitious Vision 2030 objectives of the Kingdom,” Al Badran emphasized.

Meanwhile, Olayan Alwetaid, CEO of Saudi Telecom Company (stc), highlighted, “Saudi Arabia is rapidly evolving into the region’s premier digital hub, bolstered by a thriving economy and a tech-savvy, youthful population.”

“This investment, coupled with the concerted efforts of the Saudi Telecom Group, will expedite the Kingdom’s aspiration to emerge among the world’s most connected and digitally advanced nations,” Alwetaid concluded.
